I’ve gotten into the habit of making gratitude lists. At least once a week, I try to write down the people and things I’m grateful for. When times get tough, I do it every day.
You’re on my list! I give thanks for clients, colleagues, vendors, friends, contributors, and other people with whom I have regular or sporadic contact.
The fact that Thanksgiving is coming up gives me a chance to tell you so. Thank you so much for reading my blog! Your time and attention are valuable assets. I am honored that you invest them with me.
Here are three other things that happen to have been near the top of my list this morning. I am grateful for:
1. The continued ability to read, think, and write – that is, to wield the tools of my trade
2. The friend with whom I’m watching GLOW (naming no names, but you know who you are)
3. Trader Joe’s organic free trade coffee
I could list “work, friends, food” for the three items above. (Yes, coffee qualifies as food.) But in gratitude lists, as in most other forms of writing, specific is better than general.
How about you? What are you grateful for? In preparation for Thanksgiving Day, let’s develop a master list in the comments section below.
Here’s another thing I’m grateful for: The pool at Pershing Field, the park near my house. A Jersey City Recreation facility that is clean and well-kept and that charges a pittance for a yearly membership.
What’s on your gratitude list today?
A big thing: My kids and grandkids live down the street – nice to have if I ever need a hug!
A smaller thing, but still valuable: All the windows in my house look out on trees and woods – when I need a calming influence, all I have to do is look out the window.
Awesome, Deborah! I don’t know firsthand, but I imagine that grandkid hugs are the best!
